 Testimony

You know how some people search for their talent? Well poetry found me; I didn’t wake up one morning saying I want to be a poet. I can’t really remember when I wrote my first poem, but I know it was called welcome. People can look at me, and say I don’t look like the poet type, but you can’t judge a book by its cover. When I’m writing poetry I feel like a different person; most of the times I will ask someone for a topic, then I would get to writing on it. A lot of the time I look for out of the box things; I can write on any topic no matter what it is. What is poetry to me? Most people say poetry is expressing your feelings, but to me it’s more than that. Poetry is like this world; full of unheard and unseen things. Someone told me that they USE to love writing poetry, but now they don’t. When I asked why, they said because it gets old, and they run out of stuff to say. My response to this was, “I can’t see how you can run out of things to say. If you go to sleep every night and wake up every morning then you have something to talk about. As much stuff that goes on in this world, you should have plenty to say”.
